Sunbonnet Sue: completed quilt top!

It is finally completed, yay! Pictured above is the Sunbonnet Sue full-size quilt top. We do not have a full-size bed, so had to place it on a king-size bed. The quilt has a total of 42 blocks, each with 4 lattices and 4 cornerstones. It is now hand-quilted to the batting and white backing by stitching in the ditches between every lattice horizontally and vertically. This is really a learning experience. Every Sue's dress and bonnet is made of a remnant of every outfit that I have made for granddaughter Macey since she was born in 2011. Can you believe it has come this far? To see close-ups of the corners of the quilt, please continue reading.

Here are close-ups of the corners of the Sunbonnet Sue quilt top. Both of the corner Sues are appliqued "on point", which means that they are "walking" upright around the quilt's diameter. The Sues on the long sides of the quilt are also "walking" upright. As soon as I get the binding sewn on, 'will post photos of the totally completed Sunbonnet Sue quilt. What color binding do you think would best coordinate with this quilt? Maybe a pale muted yellow or plain white? The pattern is from an older book titledSunbonnet Sue Visits Quilt in a Day®, ©1992 by Eleanor Burns. Prim quilting blessings.

It's gorgeous my friend. I think it's one of my favorite designs for a quilt. I have a few squares that my Grandmother made in my cedar chest. A pale color would be perfect. How special this will be for a keepsake. You should get the best Grandmother award for all the sewing you've done for your precious Granddaughter. Hugs, Diane

How special is that? I think it is so neat that it is all of the outfits. You should include a picture of each outfit too. I like pale yellow for the binding. Congrats for getting it done!
Be blessed,
Cindi

Thank you all so much. Actually, most of the outfits are pictured on various posts on this blog. They are under the categories: family, girls clothing.

This quilt is so cute, Danice! I really enjoy quilting, but I still consider myself a "not very good novice." I'm sure I just need more practice.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving a sweet comment!
