~RAK from Rhodes Creations!~

What a wonderful Random Act of Kindness from Laura at: Rhodes Creations. Laura sent me a surprise package with a lot of great goodies: a black cat with an American flag, and electric candle on a pretty black metal base, a cute muslin and homespun sunflower, a bag of lavender bath salts, a pack of Pink Flamingo candle melts bars, a pack of herbs [that I think are Sweet Annie], a bunch of sunflower seeds, a bundle of pip berry branches tied with homespun, and even a tasty Blueberry Harvest granola bar. Thank you so much Laura; you really did go all-out with generosity. Don't you all agree that this is really a super nice surprise gift package? Laura is so awesome! Just a little box

This is just a little box that I decorated with crafting paper and small wooden letters. It now matches the decor in my living room area, and DSG is my initials. At first, it was going to be to hold pencils, but is really too small for that. So, now it is simply a decoration. The olive green ribbon around the bottom adds a sewing attitude, doesn't it? It looks kinda retro '60's.

~Some new wool~

Good morning friends. Look at the beautiful new wool. Isn't it pretty? Margie from: Hungry Hook Primitives specially dyed this for me. Yes, there are plans for this wool. Hounds tooth is one of my favorite patterns, and this blue is such a luscious shade. Wool is such a great fabric for prim crafting. 'Love the grubby hang tag and card that Margie included also. 'Gotta love wool! Thank you so much Margie.

Bleach+vinegar=POISON!

Good morning friends. This is something we all should read and know. The intent is not to "slam" anyone's formula for rusting prim items, but to warn us all about the dangers of mixing bleach with vinegar or other products. We all do love the rusty prim look, but the dangers can outweigh the joys. Rusting, or oxidation, occurs in metals naturally over time. None of us likes to wait, lol! Mixing these ingredients causes a chemical reaction that produces a harmful gas known as chlorine or mustard gas. This damages our eyes, lungs, and other bodily membranes. The effects may not be visible for a long time or may appear quickly. In the worse possible scenario, death can occur from mixing these ingredients. Bleach should never be mixed with vinegar, peroxide, or any other product.

Honestly, some of us will likely occasionally use a bleach+vinegar recipe. If that is the decision, we should be very careful. Even if we mix the concoction outdoors, what about animals and plant life? We should try to work in a plant-free area and keep other people and animals away from the area. For goodness' sake, we should not light a cigarette in that area or work near any other source of fire such as gas lines. The following are some blogs that offer recipes for alternative safer rusting: Ahl Cooped Up and Old Road Primitives. Let's all try to be safe while working on our beautiful prim items. Let's be safe and careful so we can live and be healthy to show-off our creations. graphic: The Graphics Fairy

~Old tins from our basement~

'Went scrappin' in our basement the other day looking for any old and/or rusty keepsakes. In the photo above are two "treasures" that I found. The old Folger's coffee tin is circa 1952 (we think). 'Only thing is there is a little rust hole on the bottom. Mother won't drink any brand of coffee except Folgers, lol! The other is an old W.R. Case tin canister. Do you all recognize that brand name? I did from the start. Eagerly opened it to see what was inside. Was it empty? Old nails? A collectible?

~Metal cans: what fun!~

Good morning, friends. Yes, this is a new love of mine: metal cans. Some were found in our basement, others elsewhere. At first, the intent was to rust them even more. Then, the idea to paint and speckle them seemed more fun. So, here are the first 3. Actually, these 3 make 4, as I had done one for the Spring Tidings Swap. This is easy to do, and quite fun. The labels are all purchased from/copyrighted by a wonderful Ebay shop at: Primitive Labels and Cds. Now all family members will be getting a painted metal can, lol! Do you all like to re-purpose old metal cans and canisters?
