More scissor cuts!

Here is another Amish scherenschnitte, found at a local thrift store for only .50 cents. Yes, the same thrift store where I had found another scherenschnitte several months ago. How lucky is that? This one is small, 3 1/2"X4 1/2", and is framed in a pretty wood frame. Scherenschnitte is a German term that means scissor cuts. Notice that the cream-colored paper is cut-out to reveal the red and navy papers underneath for a two dimensional effect. The Bible verse is from Joshua 24:15, "As for me and my house, We will serve the Lord". This craft is often made by the Pennsylvania Dutch Amish people, and dates back to 16th century Germany and Switzerland. In the 18th century, settlers bought the craft to America. Don't you just love finding treasures like this?

Pink gingham peasant blouse

Well good morning to you all. Pictured above is a peasant blouse with my own creation, the ice cream cone applique. This blouse is McCall's 6313. That versatile pattern includes a blouse, dress, peasant blouse, and leg ruffle pieces. My take on the peasant blouse was just a way to make this one not look like others. The fabric is 100% cotton in a micro-checked gingham in pink and white. The darling little denim cargo shorts were store-bought. I just added the little pink ribbons to each pocket flap.

Here is the matching head band for the ice cream applique peasant blouse. This outfit is very summery, isn't it? My granddaughter loves ice cream. The added applique on this pullover blouse pattern earns it a pattern difficulty rating of:

Fairly Easy

Sunbonnet Sue quilt: first row blocks completed!

Did you give up on me for this project? Way back in March, I announced the beginning of the Sunbonnet Sue quilt for my darling granddaughter. My health slows me down on all things, but finally the first row of seven blocks is completed. Pictured above is the corner block, which is turned "on point". This simply means that when the quilt is on the bed this Sue will be "walking" upright instead of lying sideways. All of the Sues will be made of clothing scraps of all of the clothes that I have sewn for Macey the first three years of her life. Sunbonnet Sue is a very old pattern dating back to the 19th century. The pattern is from an older book titledSunbonnet Sue Visits Quilt in a Day®, ©1992 by Eleanor Burns.[not an affiliate link]. 'Not sure, but think this particular book is now out of print. The DVD and the template are still available though. To see another sewn block, please continue reading.

Flower Power round yoke dress

This is a darling round yoke dress pattern that is originally written in Japanese, designed by Clover.com.jp. The pattern has been translated into English at: Ruffles & Stuff. I chose to leave off a lower band and two front pockets. This 100% cotton fabric came from Hobby Lobby some years ago, and was called Flower Power. The round yoke is made of 100% cotton in Robin's Egg, from Kona Cotton. A very pretty pattern that is not too complicated to construct. The fasteners are two snaps at the left shoulder. That large white button is just for decoration, so no button holes required. My pattern difficulty rating is:

Fairly Easy

Cross-stitched tree pillow tuck

Good morning friends. Pictured above is a little flowering tree cross-stitching that I made. The flower centers are supposed to be pink instead of blue, but I thought doing them blue would match the ruffled trimming with the blue edges. The Aida is 14 ct. antique white. The DMC floss colors are: blue 334, pink 3860 (they call it cocoa), and the brown is 938. This pillow tuck was created for a Swap package. It could also be used as a pin keep. The pattern is free, and is from Gazette 94. It can be found under the categories Sampler and Quaker.

Thrifty Thursday: Graduation frame

It's already Thrifty Thursday again. 'Love this event. Pictured above is a really nice graduation frame purchased at a local thrift store. In like-new condition, it holds a 3 1/2"X5" photo. Since I did not get any graduation photos from Ole Miss©, thinking of just using a photo of myself from that year. What do you think? Priced at just $1.50, what a thrifty find. It even came in its original box with bubble wrap inside. 'Love the little cap and diploma. Do you like decorative photo frames? Prim Summer blessings.

Patriotic bird house

Happy 4th of July to you all. This is a patriotic themed bird house that I decorated some years ago, and forgot about until it was found just today. 'Thought today would be just the day to post about it. Everyone please be safe, especially if you use fireworks, and enjoy the holiday. Every year there is a festival along the Tennessee River. Many people in the South go to watch the professional fireworks show and enjoy a hotdog or grilled hamburger. Craft vendors are always there as well. How do you all celebrate the 4th of July? Prim Summer blessings.

Patriotic with ruffles

Good morning friends. Soon it will be the 4th of July holiday, and pictured above is the outfit I made for my darling granddaughter Macey. This is Simplicity 2171, view C plus the head band. The fabrics are 100% cotton in red, white and blue. This time, 'made knotted shoulder straps as the pattern calls for. For another outfit by this same pattern, a back sash tie was created. Wishing there had been enough of the printed fabric for the pants ruffles... Since it is a one-way design print, there was not quite enough. So, the navy fabric was used instead.
