My daughter and her family are coming today and so looking forward to seeing them all. SIL was in a car wreck a couple of weeks ago and we are so thankful that he was not injured badly. Praying for their safe arrival in the morning. Hoping that you all are having a safe Labor Day weekend.

Thrifty Thursday: Iron spoon rest and grater

It's Thrifty Thursday again, and this time I've got two great old finds. They both came from our local thrift store, and are quite old. The spoon rest is made of black cast iron, and does have some rust on it. All the better, right? It was only .75¢. The cheese grater also has some rust present, and is still kinda sharp. It cost just .25¢! The total spent: $1.00 for these treasures. Don't you just love great finds like these?

Reversible bubble romper

Here is a reversible bubble romper for my granddaughter. For the pattern, a t-shirt was traced and extended to form legs. The legs have an elastic casing and snaps for easy on and off. The shoulders form long tie straps for knots or bows. Shown here is the purple floral side; it reverses to solid purple. Soon it will be too cool outside for this but here in Alabama, August is a very hot month. 'Gotta love rompers. Please continue reading.

Market Day quilt top

Good morning friends. For the past few months, I participated in the Market Day SAL over at: Heartspun Quilts. This was my first SAL, and a lot was learned. It was very educational and fun. The quilt top measures 30"X30", and is made of 100% cotton fabrics from my stash. Although not perfect, it did turn out OK. As soon as the binding is added, 'will post some photos of the finished quilt. Have you ever participated in a SAL (stitch-a-long)?

Sunbonnet Sue: first row details!

Finally, the first row of the Sunbonnet Sue quilt for my granddaughter is done! Whew! Actually, the first two rows are finished. That will be in an upcoming post. This photo shows how the corner Sue "walks" around the quilt. That square is placed "on point" to achieve this. Do you recognize the fabrics for the Sues' dresses and bonnets? They are remnants from every outfit that I sewed for her from 2001 through 2013. 'Thought that would make the quilt special for my granddaughter as well as for her mother (my daughter). Now, only five more rows to sew. Some people call this pattern Dutch dolls or Amish dolls. To see other postings about this quilt, check out the category/label quilts. To see another photo of this row, follow the link below my signature.

Groovy peace muumuu

This darling muumuu dress pattern is a free one from: Prudent Baby. Mother chose the bright peace sign printed 100% cotton fabric. This fabric is a one-way design, so all pieces had to be cut in the same direction. Of course, this muumuu is for my precious granddaughter Macey. Look closely to see the three rows of ruffles on the front of the bodice. Elastic gathering is across the neckline and short sleeves. Very cute pattern. This muumuu is a quick and easy project with no buttons or other fasteners, so my pattern difficulty rating is:

Hooray for NCAA football!

Soon the new season of NCAA football will begin. Pictured above is an Alabama Roll Tide® pillowcase dress for my granddaughter. This was my first time to sew with the block logos style fabric, and I am well pleased with the outcome. The dress' lower band and shoulder tie are sewn from the official black and white houndstooth print fabric. Most of the family roots for Alabama, but I am an Ole Miss® fan (it is my alma mater, after all). Are you an NCAA fan? Please continue reading to see the matching hair bow.

Pink dress and hairbow

Warmer weather has definitely arrived, and this New Look sun dress pattern is ready for those warm days to come. This is A6200, and the pattern has several variations. This dress is a combination of views A & B. The bodice has an elastic back casing, and the straps are attached. Bows are tied as decoration at the front of each strap. Across the top and back of the bodice is a large ruffle. A darling ruffled pocket adorns the left side of the skirt portion. The fabric of this dress is 100% cotton, in pink with small white and grey circle designs. This is my 3rd time to use this darling pattern. Do you think Macey will like this dress?
