Sailor dress for granddaughter

Good morning to you all. It's no secret that I just adore sailor dresses for little girls. They are very patriotic plus cute to wear year 'round. The one pictured above is a summer dress with shoulder tie straps. It is made of 100% cotton fabrics. The pattern is the one used for the Dress A Girl charity that I have sewn some dresses for. A current trend in girl's dresses seems to be sleeveless, so this design looks totally in-style, doesn't it? So, which should it have: a matching hair bow or a matching head band?

Dress A Girl: helping others

Good morning friends. Have you all ever heard of Dress A Girl Around The World? While on the internet, I came across this worthy charity's website. They send dresses to girls in need all across the world. Their mission is that every girl can own a brand new, modest, well-sewn dress all for herself. How sweet is that? So, I contacted the ambassador nearest to me and read over all of the sewing guidelines. Please visit their website and consider helping them out. We are not employed by the organization, nor do we receive any financial profit from participating. The reward is worth far more than money: knowing that girls have been helped. The image link is on the left sidebar. Pictured above are mother and myself holding the first two dress we've made.

Granddaughter... so cute!

'Remember the: Reversible Bubble Romper that I made for granddaughter Macey? Here she is, wearing it, this past Easter. And look at all of those colorful eggs she has found. So cute! Macey looks so much like her mother did at that age. It makes me so happy to see Macey wearing the clothes that this proud Granny made for her. 'Looks like the sun was in her eyes. Thank God for grandchildren.

Thrifty Thursday: floral chest & straw hat

Happy Thrifty Thursday friends. Pictured above are two items from our local thrift store. The mini-chest is approx. 12" tall, and is painted in gorgeous floral roses. The drawers open for storage. It was a real find, at just $3.00. The mini doll-sized straw hat is approx. 7" wide, and was only .50¢. 'Don't really need these items, but thought they may come in handy some day, lol. Have you been thrift-store shopping lately?

Coffee with a mentor & friend

What a pleasant surprise came my way the other day. One of my former instructors at the University of Mississippi found me on FaceBook. She and her boyfriend came to my town this past weekend on business, and we were able to have some coffee and reminiscence about the "good ole days" in Mississippi. As an undergrad, I learned much from Andi, and will always admire her. Andi is a well respected and talented designer in the theatre/arts world. Friends are very special and treasured people. That's us pictured above. Andi had celebrated her birthday on the 7th of this month. 'Want to see what I gave to her? Please continue reading.

Frozen© fabric dress!

My granddaughter loves the Disney movie Frozen©, and this licensed fabric sparkles just like she does. I am not much for glitz, but this dress will be fun for Macey. The pattern is See & Sew B6004, view A, with the gathered shoulder straps. The tulle is my addition, and is actually sewn to a white under slip with an elastic waist. This way, Macey can choose to wear the tulle or not. This will also help to make laundering the dress so much easier. There is a matching hair bow. Please continue reading to see that.

Happy Easter 2015

Sending wishes for a happy Easter to you all. Our weather has taken a bit of a cold snap, and was in the 30's last night. Easter is such a family-oriented holiday, with the egg painting and baskets. For those who are religious, there are the church services. However you celebrate, best wishes to you on this beautiful Spring day. image: ©Scrappin' Doodles

"M" is for Macey

Good morning friends. Pictured above is another Thrifty Thursday find: a wooden "M" initial for my granddaughter Macey. At only .50 ¢, well worth the time to re-paint it. Macey's walls are pink, so another color was chosen for this initial- aqua. It was good luck that this thrift store find is actually an "M" and not another letter. 'Want to see the original? Please continue reading.
