Humble Quilts' Doll Quilt Swap 2016

Participated again this year in the Doll Quilt Swap hosted by Lori at Humble Quilts Blog. Pictured above is the adorable quilt that my partner: Cathy of: Big Lake Quilter , made for me. Isn't it perfect? The fabrics and pattern are all gorgeous. The log cabin is one of my favorite patterns. Cathy hand-quilted this adorable doll quilt. She also sent some much-needed quilt clips, a pair of metal snippers, and a darling quilt pattern. Sending many thanks to Cathy. Be sure to visit and follow her blog. Westering Women: Sweet Gum Leaf

Hello all. Here is my latest quilt block in Civil War Quilts' Westering Women BOM. Mine is sewn with one of Barbara Brackman's latest repro fabric collections Old Cambridge Pike [leaf], and Jo Morton's Toasted [background] and Elizabethtown [stem] collections. You know me, there will be a lot of shades of green in my quilt, lol. The y-seam is a bit difficult for me, having been quilting only about 2 years. Somehow, (with some seam ripping), 'finally got this block completed. Decided to do quilt-as-you-go is why you can see borders around this block. This BOM is only one block per month, so that allows plenty of time for getting one completed. It is always so much fun to see everyone's blocks. Head on over to the blog and the Flickr page to see a lot more blocks. Links are on this blog's left sidebar.

Northwest Alabama joined the Barn Quilt Trail!

Earlier this month, April, northwest Alabama joined the Barn Quilt Trail. This journey was begun back in 2001 by Donna Sue Groves of Adams County, Ohio. I was aware of this program, and so overjoyed that northwest Alabama has joined in. To date, there are 3 participating barns in the area. They are located in the towns of Killen and Lexington, Alabama. You can read all about them on Facebook: Alabama Barn Quilt Trail. Also check out the Florence Times Daily here: Lauderdale County Barn Quilt Tour. The barn pictured above belongs to M/M Dallas Balch of Killen, Alabama. The photo is used with permission of the photographer, Regina Painter, of Alabama Barn Quilts. What a great way to display history and culture, and nod back to the age-old art of quilting!

Stars In A Time Warp quilt top completed

Good morning friends. Finally, pictured above is my completed quilt top for the 2015 Stars In A Time Warp QAL at: Civil War Quilts' Blog. Whew! This was a one-block-a-week QAL, and resulted in my having 63 blocks. 'Decided early on to arrange my blocks on point, which may have been a bit much for a beginner quilter. Never the less, this quilt top is now completed. The spacing fabric is a solid tan 100% cotton fabric. The size is 54"X 63". Hopefully, it will get quilted and the binding this year. What color binding would you use?
This QAL was really fun and educational. Who knew they had such a variety of fabrics and color dyes in the Civil War era? Indigoes, foulards, Turkey reds, chrome yellow, paisleys, stripes...To see the Flickr group with many other people's blocks, visit here: Flickr: Civil War Quilts.

Dr. Seuss®print dress

Good morning friends. Do you all like cartoon characters? Since a child, I have adored Dr. Seuss' Cat In The Hat®. While wandering around a store one day, the above fabric was located. It is the classic print in those iconic colors. My granddaughter also loves this book, so this pillowcase dress was created. Please continue reading to see more.

Thrifty Thursday: bird house

Wow, 'just realized that it has been about 8 months since I last posted a Thrifty Thursday. So, pictured above is a darling wood bird house that was only $2.00 at a local thrift store. Of course the green roof caught my eye (fave color). It looks so Spring-y and cheerful. This bird house was actually purchased several months ago. What a cute knick-knack to decorate with.

Night Crossing pastel bed runner

Pictured above is another bed runner. This one was made for my daughter and her husband this past Christmas (2015). This one is for a queen-size bed, and measures 88"X25 3/4". The charms and border fabrics are from the Atelier collection by Three Sisters for Moda Fabrics. Such nice pastel prints and subtle colors. My daughter and her family have a new house, so this bed runner makes a nice gift for them. The pattern is called Night Crossing, and is from the e-book: e-PatternsCentral.com: Bed Runners Using Precut Fabrics. (Not an affiliate link, just letting you know where to find the pattern). The quilting is machine meandering style, and the backing is a monotone beige 100% cotton fabric. The binding is a light beige color. Daughter and her family do love this gift. Prim quilting blessings.
