Heirloom restoration project

Here it is: a forty-something year old restoration project for my granddaughter. This doll crib was mine many years ago. Originally it was two stacking doll beds. I have refashioned it into one and am adding fancy finials to the corner posters. A ton of sanding + new coats of satin white paint and matte clear coat finish are needed. There will also be a new platform with foam mattress, as well as new bedding. This was my first go at constructing spindles, which went very slowly. Wishing that this doll furniture would have been found years ago. It was stored in mother's utility shed, to our surprise. Who would have known? Using the word "heirloom" might be a bit presuming, lol. Let's see if it even looks good when completed. Stay tuned for future progress. Have you ever restored any of your old toys for your grandchildren?

Sending happiest birthday wishes to my lovely daughter, Amanda

Yankee Diary QAL: May block

Still behind on the Yankee Diary QAL hosted by: Civil War Quilts Blog. Finally, here is my May block A Union Basket. The fabrics are all from my stash. My appliqued letters are a bit smaller than the instruction's, but thankfully still readable. This QAL is educational and fun. If possible, why not join in on it? The Summer solstice for the Northern Hemisphere has also arrived. It's good to be looking forward to warmer days.

Sending happiest birthday wishes to my adorable granddaughter, Macey

Rin QAL: starting another block

Slowly but surely advancing on the Rin QAL hosted by: Hyacinth Quilt Designs and: Meadow Mist Designs. Pattern designer: Carolyn Friedlander. I have decided to work towards completing all four of the hand-turned appliqued blocks, instead of just one at a time. Learning patience, my Word for 2017, lol. Stay tuned to see more progress on this quilt. Hoping to start block number four very soon.

The half way mark has been reached on the Constellations QAL at: The Academic Quilter. The RSC color for June is yellow, so this Georgetown Circle star block features yellow. I will be sewing this block in its row soon. Looking forward to seeing the future blocks in this fun QAL.

Dream Machine Challenge!

Hello friends. Yes, here it is again. 'Absolutely love this Sewing Machine applique pattern designed by Pat Sloan. This Challenge is to create the machine in your own fancy colors and fabrics. What would be your own idea of the perfect sewing machine? So, here is mine.

I decided to display my quilt in a quilter's hoop. Do you remember some years ago when this type of hoop art was so popular? My Dream Machine is black, with computerized LED window. Notice the medallion has my initial "D" inside of it. Added a green polka dot ruffle for decoration. You knew this would include some green, right? Lol. Added a drawer to the table to look like my own sewing table, and a quilt block under the needle. A little blue bird holds the thread end. This little quilt measures 24" diameter including the ruffle, and expresses me so well. Be sure to visit the link party to see many more creative takes on two of Pat's Sewing Machine patterns. To see a close-up of my Dream Machine, please continue reading.

Rin QAL: two blocks nearly completed!

Hello everyone. Guess what- 'almost completed two of the four blocks in the Rin QAL hosted by: Hyacinth Quilt Designs and Meadow Mist Designs. Pattern designer: Carolyn Friedlander. This is my first attempt at hand-turned applique, and so far so good. Now only two more blocks to make + top and lower borders. For the quilting, I will probably go with meandering. Have not decided on the binding yet. This QAL is so much fun. We can make many blocks or just one to qualify for the giveaway prizes at the end of the event. To finish appliqueing these two blocks + another two blocks for the quilt top will be my One Monthly Goal for June.
