Word of the Year: 2019

post image: Cristina Abadia | Unsplash

The New Year will be here in about eight hours, and for 2019 my Word of the Year is going to be: resolute- determined in character, action, or ideas. This was also my word for the In Our Own Words quilt project that was completed this month. It is a beautiful quilt, created and made by Kim at Leland Avenue Studios, that features embroidered quilt blocks of words to describe women. Why not carry my word on into 2019? Happy New Year's Eve wishes to you all. 2019 is going to be awesome!

Word of the Year in 2018, finish, was thankfully met. Here is the grand total:
♥ Completed UFO & WIP quilts in 2018: 19 ♥

Log Cabin Hidden Stars: finished!

This quilt is one that has been some years in the making. I began the quilt top back in 2014-15, and earlier this year it was professionally quilted by Jan Briggs of: Quilting Among The Groves. Jan did a gorgeous leaf design all over, and his work is excellent. The quilting was a prize won in the Magnolia Mystery QAL that was hosted back in 2017-2018 by Cheryl of: Meadow Mist Designs. Please continue reading to see the back of this quilt, and for comments.

Best of 2018 Linky Party

It is, once again, time for the Best of 2018 Linky Party. This year, I chose mine simply based on which 5 (well 6, it was a tie) posts were my favorites. 2018 was my year of finishing many quilt top WIPs and UFOs. There is no specific order. Pictured first is the Exploding Stars quilt finish. It was a QAL from Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict. Please continue reading to see more, and for comments.

#2019 Planning Party

Hello friends. It's that time again- our 2019 Planning Party goals. Have you set any yet? Mine are somewhat the same as last year's:

1. Stay caught-up on quilting quilt tops. In 2018, that goal was actually met, completing all 19! Yay! (Well, there are already like 5 quilt tops waiting for 2019!)

2. Find the courage to socialize with other quilters/stitchers here locally. Our area does have a few quilters groups, and I want to get over the shyness about meeting some of them. For blogging online quilter friends (and friends who don't quilt), comment and socialize more with you all. Sadly, I did not get to do the local socializing in 2018 due to family health issues. 'Hoping to get to do this in 2019.

3. Learn how to machine-stitch more quilting designs, in addition to my usual meandering, cross-hatch, and loopy-loops. How about Baptist Fan, Matchstick, Circular, and Leaves? Gorgeous! Guess what- I actually did learn the walking foot for straight-line, cross-hatch, and in-the-ditch quilting! 'Looking to learn more in 2019.

4. Be more resolute and determined to learn how to paper piece. My paper piecing skills have a long way to go...

Hurricane Michael quilt blocks

Back in October, That Fabric Feeling posted about a quilt block drive for relief to Hurricane Michael victims. The request was for 10 1/2" string blocks. Here are the four that I made and mailed. Making quilt blocks is a wonderful way for me to help, and it truly makes my heart happy. You can check the blog for more information. The church collecting and quilting the blocks is located in Alabama. 'Not sure if they are still accepting blocks. To all victims of the hurricanes and fires, our prayers are always with you and your families.

Prize won: Blogger's Quilt Festival 2018

This is the beautiful, luscious Burnish Fat Quarter Bundle that I won from the:2018 Blogger's Quilt Festival. The fabrics are from: ADORNit®, and I have already begun using them. Look closely, you'll see that some of them are cut. Weather here has not permitted outdoors photography, so this photo was made indoors. Aren't these some of the most beautiful fabrics you have ever seen? Two quilt tops are being pieced and will be posted when finished, so stay tuned. Sending many thanks to Amy and to ADORNit® fabrics for this fabulous prize.
