Gwennie Inspired QAL: round 4

Hello to all in blog land. I am so enjoying the Gwennie Inspired QAL hosted by Lori at Humble Quilts Blog. Round 4 is to be star-themed, and my round is simple this time. Wanting my completed quilt to be rectangular instead of square, I simply added a round of navy cotton with a star print to the top and bottom of the quilt top. The quilt now measures 34"X40". Negative space is a wonderful design in quilts, but it just seemed like the four white areas surrounding the basket center medallion needed something added. That "something" is a simple blue bird applique in each area. 'Hoping that my choices are acceptable, and not too simple. Looking forward to seeing everyone's round 4, and to the next round of this fun QAL. Have you been quilting lately?

I was tempted to use a star fabric also, but didn't have the right one in my stash. I think yours enhances the simplicity of your top--great idea!

I could have used a simple solution to my medallion last month! This is delightful.

Not too simple at all - lovely.

I chose star fabric, too, though much more subtle than yours! I like the addition of the little blue birds. I think all our choices are acceptable in this quilt along as long as we're happy with them.

I love seeing applique combined with piecing!
Isn't it fun seeing the vast variety of approaches to the themes of this QAL? I'm just fascinated!

Love your quilting, you are so talented and can just make anything, I saw your comment on my blog, but it was a no reply post. Just wanted you to know that I am thinking of your mom too. Hugs, Lecia
