Monster Mash Blog Hop: day 2

Good morning to you all! Today is day 2 of the Monster Mash Blog Hop. This is well, part of my project. Due to having fallen and wearing an arm brace, I did not finish the rest of my project. Many apologies. The metal can is hand-painted and is decorated with a crow label (graphic: Graphics Fairy) . I speckled some vintage white paint to make the can look a bit aged. 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop: Cans & Cookies!

Hello and welcome friends. Today it is Day #19 of the: 12 Days of Christmas in July Blog Hop (Confessions of a Fabric Addict). I have a craft tutorial, as well as a cookie recipe to share. Pictured above are several decorated tin cans. There are many ways to make these, and here is my method. Let's get started:

1. First gather the supplies. You'll need some clean tin food cans, a paint brush and a sponge brush, acrylic paints including one white, sandpaper, school glue, spray primer, and spray clear coat finish. Wear a painter's paper mask (available at most dollar stores) to protect yourself from the fumes.

2. Lightly sand the can's exterior. In a well-ventilated area, put on the painter's paper mask and spray a light coat of metal primer onto the can. Allow about 30 minutes to completely dry.

3. Using the sponge brush, choose the acrylic paint color that you want the can to be and paint the exterior well. Allow to dry about 30 minutes.

4. Take the white acrylic paint and dip the paint brush bristle end into the paint. Hold the paint brush upside down in one hand, about 8" from the tin can. With your other hand, quickly swipe over the paint brush end onto the tin can. Turn the tin can as necessary to lightly sprinkle the entire exterior. Allow to dry for 30 minutes.

5. Using your printer or purchased labels, glue a label onto the can's front. The labels above are from The Graphics Fairy and Back Porch Graphics. 'Love that olde world Santa and the moose for holidays decorating.

6. Donning the painter's paper mask again in a well-ventilated area, lightly spray a layer of clear coat over the tin can's exterior. It will dry in about 10 minutes.

Now you have a prim speckled tin can to store something in, add flowers to, or just to sit as a trinket. Please continue reading for a holidays recipe.

Thrifty Thursday: old flour sifter

Good morning friends. Look what else was found in the [old] original kitchen cabinets during our kitchen reno: this old metal flour sifter! It is aged a lot, but does still function. The handle knob is wood. Since the house was built in the 1940's, it could be of that era. Wow, what to do with it. Would you just leave it as is, or decorate it a bit? All I did was clean it up. Oh, and the cost was free, lol. Prim blessings.

Treasures from Grandma Pearl

Hello everyone. 'Hope you are all doing well. Today is all about family. It is mother's birthday, and my twin sister and I have festivities planned especially for her. Speaking of family, pictured above are two treasures from my daddy's mother. She passed away in the early 1950's, and my mother had these items in her own jewelry box. My mother had the pleasure of knowing Grandma Pearl, who was an excellent seamstress and quilter. Daddy's family was from the rural northeast Mississippi area, and quite poor. Daddy had nearly a dozen siblings on the farm. Mother's family was from Mississippi as well, but they were "city-dwellers".

The pin appears to be made of silver, but has no markings. It is also quite heavy weight. The stones may be genuine? 'Do not know. The pack of German-made Dix and Rands High Grade 3/9 sharps contains 7 needles that are in quite good condition. Mother decided to give these to me as a momento of Grandma Pearl. There was a matching silver pin, identical to the one pictured above, that mother gave to my twin sister. It is so special to have something that Grandma Pearl actually owned. Don't you just love items like these?

Harvest Gatherings Swap 2015

Lookie what came in the mail yesterday! Swap goodies from Bumblebee Lane Cottage's annual Harvest Gatherings Swap. My swap partner was Debbie of: Barefoot Primitives Blog. Wow, Debbie really did spoil me. She sent: a darling raggedy doll, a muslin turkey, 2 muslin pumpkins, 2 wax potpourri cakes, some vintage milk caps, 3 ears of muslin corn, a bundle of cinnamon sticks, a bundle of little candles, a sewing notions doll on a vintage spool, 5 bowl filler pillows with sunflowers (1 has Hebrews 4:14 verse), a note card set with pretty bird graphics, an owls pin keep and 2 cakes of beeswax, a vintage baby frock, a blue note pad roll with a wooden writing pen, a rusty wire with ladybugs and sunflowers trimming, and 2 darling prim hang tags. Thrifty Thursday: old tin kettle

Hello friends. Pictured above is an old tin kettle, found at a local thrift store for only $1.00. How awesome is that? The handle is white ceramic with a beautiful blue crosshatch design. That obvious rusting is a plus, right? Oddly, looking at the kettle's bottom, there are several of what appear to be shotgun holes! 'Looks like someone used this kettle for target practice. With the spray from a shotgun wad, it's fairly easy to hit a target at least one time, lol. No doubt, it now has a better and safer home with me now. It is a nice old decoration item. Do you like collecting old kitchen ware?

On another note, Alabama is experiencing yet another late-winter ice storm. The icy sleet fell all through the night last night, leaving us with about 2" of frozen roads this morning. Schools and many businesses are closed. We had made a quick store-run in the AM of Wednesday before it all started. You all stay safe and warm. Prim Winter blessings.

*Merry Christmas and a sleigh*

Good morning, and merry Christmas to you all. Today is also Thrifty Thursday, so here are some holiday-related finds. The metal sleigh is in like-new condition and was only $2.50. It is nearly 10" tall. 'Caught my eye immediately. The red and green wicker basket and the box of green glass tree ornaments were also a real finds at only $1.00 each. See how one green tree ornament is missing? That is OK, since all items were purchased at a thrift store. Total cost: $4.50 for all three items. 'Still cannot beat those prices. Hoping that all of you are well-fed, warm and healthy on this winter day. Prim holiday blessings.

Harvest Gatherings Swap goodies!

Good evening friends. 'Participated in the Harvest Gatherings Swap again, and my partner was: Sandi of The Primitive Skate. Pictured above are the darling goodies that Sandi sent to me: big ole stuffed pumpkin, little wooden angel, embroidered kitchen towel, metal planter with beautiful crow and pumpkin painted on its front, little green bucket with a crow label and a stuffed pumpkin inside, Pumpkin Seed scented tart and three scented soaps, cute corn battery-powered light, and a vintage white metal bowl filled with a corn cob and some other little scented items. Thrifty Thursday: Iron spoon rest and grater

It's Thrifty Thursday again, and this time I've got two great old finds. They both came from our local thrift store, and are quite old. The spoon rest is made of black cast iron, and does have some rust on it. All the better, right? It was only .75¢. The cheese grater also has some rust present, and is still kinda sharp. It cost just .25¢! The total spent: $1.00 for these treasures. Don't you just love great finds like these?

Thrifty Thursday: old flour sifter and candy tin

It's Thrifty Thursday again. This time, I am sharing the vintage old flour sifter that was found at a local antique store for $4.00. The mechanism still functions, and some rust is present. It is stamped, "Foley Made in USA" on the front. How cool is that? On to our local Salvation Army store... where this Pennsylvania Dutch Amish Rum Candy tin was purchased for only $1.00 (no candy inside, lol!) So, the grand total spent on this trip: $5.00, a bit more than usual. Well worth the money, don't you think so?

Thrify Thursday: Granite ware coffee pot

Happy Thrifty Thursday, friends. Pictured above are two great finds. The vintage granite ware coffee pot is blue speckled, and shows some rust from many years of use. The hinged lid still opens. The coffee pot is approx. 8 1/2" tall, and was only $6.00 at an antiques store in a nearby town. 'Something about granite ware that I just love. Beneath the coffee pot is another vintage item: a black cast iron trivet.
'Learned that this trivet's style is rooted in Pennsylvania and that the design is called, "Dumb Dutch". The two brooms, two hearts, and pair of birds are characteristics of the design. This trivet has been in our family for many years. 'Was not able to find out more about the origin of that name, "Dumb Dutch". Do any of you know any history about that?

Gotta love metal cans

Good morning, friends. Yes, here are three more metal cans that I painted and labeled. It is so much fun, and they are quite prim. This is also a creative way to up-cycle metal. The cans are also really easy to make, which is great for those of us who have RA and other types of arthritis conditions. Have you ever tried this art form? ~Thrifty Thursday: patriotic signs~

Good morning, friends. For this week's Thrifty Thursday is two items that cost just .50¢ each. I usually do not purchase prim items from dollar stores as they are often mass-produced and machine-made, often made of "non-prim" products such as plastic. These, however, were too cute to resist. These garden stakes are made of wood and have wire trim with 2 rusty bells on each. 'Not sure how they would withstand outdoors weather, so they will be indoors with other prim items. The star is my favorite. Which do you like the best?

Sending-out a very happy birthday to my BIL today also. His wife, my twin sister, is still on the road to recovery and continuing to do better since her broken ankle surgery. Thank you all for the prayers and concern for my family. Prim blessings ♥
