Some of you asked about it, so Sweet Potato Pie is mostly a Southern US treat, originating from the African American communities long ago during the Civil War era period. In the South, sweet potatoes are easier to farm than pumpkins. Not closely related to potatoes and not the same as yams, they actually belong to the Morning Glory family. Sweet Potato Pie is very similiar to Pumpkin Pie, except a bit creamier. Both pies include many spices in common, such as nutmeg, cinnamon, and pumpkin. Both pies do taste a lot alike. Here in Alabama, most of us love both of these tasty pies, especially with a dash of whipped cream and a cup of hot coffee. 'A bit of history for us! Blessings to you all, and thanks again for another awesome year of blogging.
