Old thread spools

These are some old wood spools that I found at a thrift store many years ago. Some of them got posted, but the ones in the front row (the smaller ones) did not. Isn't it funny how some things can by accident get overlooked? This photograph was originally to be a blog header, but that never happened (lol). 'Hoping that you all are having a wonderful day. Thank you for all of the sweet comments and visits to this blog. Regardless of what the world might say, blogging is still popular.

Gift for grandson

Wood craft decor

Good morning friends. These are some dollar store wood decor items that I painted for my grandson's hutch shelf in his nursery. The theme is dinosaurs, so these fit the bill perfectly. The little cars should look cute as well. There is a wide range of colors, and several coats of acrylic paint on each one. Of course, they are all for decor only, due to small parts that can come off (ie the wheels and round spheres). Keep reading for another photo and for comments.

Another raggedy doll

'Just realized that although I thanked her, I never blogged about this darling raggedy doll that Diane of: Lavender Dreams sent to me back in 2017. What a wonderful birthday gift! She is sitting in a little wood chair that I actually found at a local thrift store. Perfect fit! The doll's green frock is my favorite color too. Oh, and one more thing: how do you all dye the fabric black for primitive black crows, dolls and such? Acrylic paint dries and forms kinda a hard plastic shell. 'Difficult to sand without ripping the fabric. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Sewing table: redo

Here it is: the redo of my old sewing table. It was a find at an antique store some years ago. The table was unfinished, and had wobbly legs. It was likely originally a makeup vanity with a fabric skirt around the lower section. There were some small nails still around the top edges. If there were ever a matching stool, it is obviously long gone. After removing those small nails and sanding, this is the end result. The table now matches it's chest of drawers, painted in the same Valspar® Brisk Olive and the top varnished with the same olde maple stain. The original drawer pull was a simple wood round one. It was replaced with a round decorative, colorful pull that was in my stash for a long time. The drawer is handy for scissors, seam rippers, and other sewing notions. Sewing chest: re-do

Pictured here is an old wood chest of drawers, purchased about twelve years ago at a yard sale in MS. It was originally painted solid white, and had small round white porcelain drawer pulls. Actually, those pulls were not large enough to open the drawers easily. No drawers in the before photo. Looking back, 'should have made a better before photo. Wooden spoon rack + tutorial

Hello all. Here is a wooden spoon rack that I made recently. It was quite simple to construct. If you love the prim look, one of these would be great. Of course, they are a decoration only. The supplies you will need: scrap wood piece in a rectangular shape, one 1/2" thick square dowel rod, acrylic paints, a wood stain and a clean rag, some sponge brushes, some small wood nails, wood glue, 100-180 grit sandpaper for wood, a metal sawtooth hanger, a hammer, a jigsaw, and a hand drill. Heirloom restoration project: completed!

Finally, here it is: the completed doll crib! It now has two coats of satin white paint + a coat of matte clear finish. The bedding is a colorway of grey, pink and white. The dust ruffle is pink with white polka dots. The fitted sheet is grey and white houndstooth fabric, and the quilt is a grey ground with pink and white damask print. The backside of the quilt is solid pale pink. The quilting is machine meandering. A scrap of Warm N' Natural© worked perfectly for the quilt. Heirloom restoration project: part 2

Here it is again: the restored doll crib project. The two doll beds are now one. At this point, it has been sanded and painted with two coats of satin white. A matte clear coat has also been added. All four finials are atop the four posters, and the side spindles are completed (which was by far the most difficult part!). The new mattress platform was temporarily removed to avoid paint splatter. Whoo, this project is time-consuming but so far so good. Hoping the remaining work goes as smoothly. Stay tuned to see more on this project.

Heirloom restoration project

Here it is: a forty-something year old restoration project for my granddaughter. This doll crib was mine many years ago. Originally it was two stacking doll beds. I have refashioned it into one and am adding fancy finials to the corner posters. A ton of sanding + new coats of satin white paint and matte clear coat finish are needed. There will also be a new platform with foam mattress, as well as new bedding. This was my first go at constructing spindles, which went very slowly. Wishing that this doll furniture would have been found years ago. It was stored in mother's utility shed, to our surprise. Who would have known? Using the word "heirloom" might be a bit presuming, lol. Let's see if it even looks good when completed. Stay tuned for future progress. Granddaughter's toy box

Pictured above is my granddaughter, Macey. She is having fun writing on the chalkboard of her new bench toy box. "Santa" (great-grandma Sarah & granny Danice) bought this toy box and refinished it for Macey. It is solid wood, and appears to be about 25+ years old. It was in a horrible shape, but has "good bones". This is what it looks like after much sanding, painting, and child-proofing. Thrifty Thursday: bird house

Wow, 'just realized that it has been about 8 months since I last posted a Thrifty Thursday. So, pictured above is a darling wood bird house that was only $2.00 at a local thrift store. Of course the green roof caught my eye (fave color). It looks so Spring-y and cheerful. This bird house was actually purchased several months ago. What a cute knick-knack to decorate with.

Good morning friends. Pictured above is another Thrifty Thursday find: a wooden "M" initial for my granddaughter Macey. At only .50 ¢, well worth the time to re-paint it. Thrifty Thursday: old wood spools

It's Thrifty Thursday again. Pictured above are three old wood thread spools found at a local antique shop. I am not sure how old they are, but they do look prim and vintage. These were a good find at only $4.50 for all three. 'Thinking they will look nice on a shelf in my sewing area. Actually, these old wood spools are not easily found around this town. Winter Pin Keep Swap goodies!

Good morning to you all. Recently I participated in the Winter Pin Keep Swap at: Ravenwood Whimzies. Pictured above is the festive pin keep that my partner Wendy (who hosted this Swap) made and sent. The mouse sits atop of a red box that opens for storage. A pocket on his back holds a lovely pair of gold-handled scissors. Beside the mouse sits a pine tree and a little green pin keep with star-topped pins. The box label reads: Not a Creature was stirring, Not even a mouse.... Wendy also sent two red kitchen towels, a wood-framed Holly Jolly Christmas stitchery, a book of holiday recipes, and a box of yummy Andes© Peppermint Crunch Thins candy. Wow, am I spoiled, lol! Thrifty Thursday: Rooster framed

Here is another great Thrifty Thursday find: a roosters calendar on clearance at Hobby Lobby for only $2.00! Manufactured by Lang.com, this calendar features the artwork of Susan Winget. The wood frame is yet another find at our local Salvation Army store for .50 cents. Total on these finds = $2.50. How awesome is that! Prim Summer blessings.

More scissor cuts!

Here is another Amish scherenschnitte, found at a local thrift store for only .50 cents. Yes, the same thrift store where I had found another scherenschnitte several months ago. How lucky is that? This one is small, 3 1/2"X4 1/2", and is framed in a pretty wood frame. Scherenschnitte is a German term that means scissor cuts. Notice that the cream-colored paper is cut-out to reveal the red and navy papers underneath for a two dimensional effect. The Bible verse is from Joshua 24:15, "As for me and my house, We will serve the Lord". This craft is often made by the Pennsylvania Dutch Amish people, and dates back to 16th century Germany and Switzerland. In the 18th century, settlers bought the craft to America. Don't you just love finding treasures like this?
