Welcome Autumn 2023!

Way back in 2018, I participated in the Autumn Jubilee hosted by Carole of: From My Carolina Home. The stitch along was for a wool pumpkin, and I made mine into this little flower pocket. Somehow, 'never got posted on this blog. Carole even mentioned the pocket on her blog {belated thank you} in a wrap-up post. Now, some 5 years later, here it is. Wishing all of you a happy first day of the Autumn solstice. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons. Is the weather cooler where you live?

Green Spring-time quilt

This is a little quilt that I decided to make for Spring, and Easter. It is wholecloth, and has five pastel-colored buttons sewn to the front edge for decoration. It was sewn right-sides-together and then quilted, which formed a mock binding.

More fabric face masks

Here are a few more fabric face masks that I have sewn. You might recognize three of them from the previous post. The elastic ear loops, gathering and pleating did not work so well for my ears and face, so I took the masks apart and used another style pattern. This pattern is from: Julie at The Crafty Quilter, and is the version with ties. The curved smooth design fits my face perfectly. The lime and white print mask was also sewn in this batch. 'Couldn't resist, as green is my favorite color. Hoping you all are safe and well. There is stormy weather forecast for us this week, but hoping we miss that. It has been really cold at night, though, in the 40's! How is everything going where you are?

Happy Easter 2018

Happy Easter morning to you all. Hoping your day is going well. Spring is such a nice time of the year, with its warmer temperatures and the flowers blooming. Even a bit if rain is OK with me. I cannot recall another year when Easter fell on the same day as April Fool's Day, can you? 'Funny how things happen sometimes. Wishing you all happiness and good health today, and every day. Mason® jars decorated

Hoping you all are enjoying these last remaining days of autumn. Winter will be here soon. Pictured above are two Mason® jars that I decorated. One is more autumn while the other is winter. The autumn one is filled with fake berries, while the winter one is filled with fake snow flakes. The instructions for these is from: Jill at: Create Craft Love.com. She did the autumn leaf one, and I decided to do the winter snowflake one. The jars were free, as they came from our own kitchen. Recall my post about finding them back in 2013. They appear to be a bit old. These are so cute, but decided to not give one to my daughter until granddaughter is a bit older (the glass could break if dropped). Many thanks to Jill for this tutorial. Today, we could obtain some real snow for that winter snowflake jar. Although the Northern Hemisphere Winter Solstice does not begin until the 21st, we are getting a wintery mix currently. Prim autumn/winter blessings.

Why some are losing GFC Followers

Good morning friends. Yes, before I rant on about that GFC (Google Friends Connect) Followers problem again, here is an explanation of why some of us have lost quite a few Followers over the past few weeks. Here is what has happened: Followers who do not have a Google account can no longer Follow via GFC. Many of us have long ago added other platforms to follow on our blogs, such as Linky Followers, FeedBurner, and Bloglovin'. We can also display the Follow By Email from our Blogger layout.

How is your winter weather? Here in Alabama, still colder and rainy. A few days ago, we even got a light dusting of snow. 'Cannot believe that February is right around the corner, can you? Stay warm and happy. Prim winter blessings to everyone.

Joy Christmas wall hanging

Merry Christmas morning, friends. Christmas is finally here, and everyone is so excited. Due to people's work schedules, we celebrated yesterday and all had a wonderful time. Very atypical weather here in Alabama, with thunderstorms and even tornadoes. There were injuries and property damage. We pray for all of the people involved and their families. A couple of years ago, I came across this wonderful free tutorial called Christmas Joy Quilt. Finally, pictured above is the completed project. Mine measures 10"X18", and is quilted in an allover meandering style. The cute green wreath ribbon was purchased from an Etsy store. Actually, this work is supposed to be in a white frame. Quilted laptop cover

Well, it really has been a week since my last post. 'Been feeling a bit under the weather, which by the way, is rainy here in Alabama. The tree cutters came and removed what remained of that large Bradford Pear tree that was damaged last month in a thunderstorm. No more worries that it will fall again, what a relief. Pictured above is a quilted laptop cover that I made for my computer. It measures 21"X18", and is made of fabric remnants found at a local thrift store (so it also qualifies as Thrifty Thursday, lol!) The main fabric is a vibrant African wild animals print. The binding is green, my fave color. The backing is a solid brown cotton fabric, also from my stash. Top and bottom borders are made of a beige basket weave print cotton. Quilting is cross-hatching style. Not a large project, but very useful and colorful. It will help keep dust from my laptop. Sometimes it's just fun to do a project that can be completed in one day, isn't it? Do you ever make fast projects like this?

Tornadoes... in July?

Have you all had bad weather lately? Well, the photo above tells what happened here. Around 6 PM CST on the 14th, the sky turned dark and suddenly the wind got really strong. Next came the down pouring rain and then we heard a loud cracking noise. After it was all over, we discovered this huge downed limb from our cherished Bradford Pear tree. The wind took-out nearly the whole backside of this tree, barely missing our utility shed. The whole storm lasted only a few minutes. Other people in this county suffered much worse damage, but thank God no one was injured or lost their life. The local weather station had released a severe weather alert, but did not detect the two tornadoes until after the fact. We suspect that one of those tornadoes dipped down and caused this [sudden] damage to our tree. Mother's television cable line was snapped by the tip of this limb, so until a tree service can get over here, the cable company cannot install a new line. Somehow, the utilities line that was side by side with the television cable line did not snap. We are so thankful that this downed line did not start a fire. Here in Alabama we usually do not get tornadoes in July, as they typically occur in the Spring. Hoping that you all are safe and are staying cool in this intense Summer heat.

Thrifty Thursday: vegetables in a bottle

Look at the two items that I found at a local thrift store: a little glass jar of vegetables and a cute damask box. Both items were at really great prices, too: .50¢ each. I have always loved the veggies in a bottle. So, are they real or fake, lol! Either way, this will look good in a kitchen. The damask box, well, 'just thought it was really pretty. It will be a good what-not. Tomorrow is the Spring solstice, and warmer weather will arrive soon. These items remind me of nice Spring weather. Prim blessings to you all.

Thrifty Thursday: old tin kettle

Hello friends. Pictured above is an old tin kettle, found at a local thrift store for only $1.00. How awesome is that? The handle is white ceramic with a beautiful blue crosshatch design. That obvious rusting is a plus, right? Oddly, looking at the kettle's bottom, there are several of what appear to be shotgun holes! 'Looks like someone used this kettle for target practice. With the spray from a shotgun wad, it's fairly easy to hit a target at least one time, lol. No doubt, it now has a better and safer home with me now. It is a nice old decoration item. Do you like collecting old kitchen ware?

On another note, Alabama is experiencing yet another late-winter ice storm. The icy sleet fell all through the night last night, leaving us with about 2" of frozen roads this morning. Schools and many businesses are closed. We had made a quick store-run in the AM of Wednesday before it all started. You all stay safe and warm. Prim Winter blessings.

*Winter snow*

Hey there friends. Pictured above is a scene from "old" downtown near where we live in Alabama. The snow was on Feb. 26th, and Alabama really got a lot. Well, it is a lot for this area anyway. I made this photo from our back porch early that AM. So glad that it thawed and melted later that same day. The snow was pretty, though. This set a record for the top 4 levels of snowfall in this area since the late 1800's. How cool is that! Hoping you all are staying safe and warm. Prim Winter blessings.

*Eleanor the Snowflake-Catcher Mouse*

This is a mouse doll pattern that I designed. Her name is Eleanor, and she is complete with her blue metal snowflake catcher pail and warm wool felt mittens. Eleanor is made of osnaburg, and wears a 100% cotton coffee and vanilla stained blue dress with white snowflakes print. Her apron is made of that same fabric in lighter blue with white snowflakes print. She is 18" tall, and also wears bleached muslin pantaloons and a mob cap. See her long tail, tucked just behind her right foot? Doesn't she look very prim and Wintery? Eleanor could actually find some snow here in Alabama today, as we got a little dusting overnight. Snow is better than the freezing ice anytime. Hoping you are all safe and warm.

Alabama is closed!

Hello friends. Yes, most all of north Alabama is closed due to an ice storm. I made the photo above just before sunset. Look closely near the lower left side, and you'll see the setting sun. There are already a reported 11 auto wrecks in our own county, and more than triple that many in the adjoining counties. Nearly all roads are now closed or slow-moving. Lines of wrecked and/or abandoned cars string across most of our highways. Please pray for those involved in a semi trailer/passenger car accident near Priceville. That sounds like a terribly awful collision. Police are advising people to please stay off of the roads. Most schools and businesses were closed today. My own little pickup truck is actually stuck at the foot of our driveway currently. 'Had tried to make a quick store-run for mother and myself earlier this afternoon... Oh, the photo above was made with the new Nikon camera that Santa brought me. 'Never thought that I'd get to own a Nikon, lol. You all please stay safe and warm. Prim winter blessings to everyone.

Where have I been?

Not a post for over a week... where have I been? Our family has had some sadness lately, but all is getting better now. I have also been not feeling too well, but am finally getting better now. 'Been visiting some of your blogs and commented a bit. Pictured above is a hair bow that I made for my granddaughter this past summer. 'Didn't want a post with no image, so thought that would make a good one. There is a matching blouse and shorts set, but somehow failed to get a photo of them before giving them to my granddaughter. That fabric is from an older Riley Blake© collection called Scoot.

'Hoping that you are all doing well and are happy. Early this morning, we had some nasty lightning and heavy rain. 'Kinda out of season, but it happened. It is so good to have the cooler weather during the night time. 'Looking forward to that cooler weather during the day time. It seems like September flew by so fast. Have you all been getting any rain or storms lately?

Alabama storms in April

What a night it was. We do live in Alabama, where much damage and even some fatalities have happened. The photo above was made by me around 7 PM last night, just as that particular [storm] cell was moving into our area. It was three years ago on Sunday that the EF4 and EF5 storms ravaged the South. Last night was a grim reminder of that day. No one in our family was injured, and we pray for those who were injured and/or have lost loved ones. The property damage is also extensive, and many people are without utilities. Governor Bentley has declared every county in Alabama to be in a state of emergency. We also pray for those in Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma and elsewhere who have suffered severe weather conditions. Meteorologists are already warning our area that by noon more storms will be moving in. Everyone please stay safe and take cover asap if your area is in danger; do not wait around until it is too late. Remember if you must take cover to wear protective head coverings such as bike or football helmets if you have them. If you are in a mobile home or other metal structure building, please allow plenty of time to get to a safe place. Two of the fatalities in our area were people inside a mobile home...

On another important note: CBS News© is reporting a security gap in Internet Explorer versions 6 through 11 (the current version). Microsoft© is to release a patch tomorrow. So for now, use another browser, friends. 'Hope you all have reputable security systems with firewalls on your computers.

Been offline a week...

Well hello friends. Yes, I was offline for a week due to computer troubles. The cooling fan quit, and of course a new one had to be ordered. The day it quit, we were covered in snow and all schools as well as many businesses were closed, including the computer repair shop. So, today I finally got my computer back. 'Have emailed the folks who emailed hunting me down, lol. So sorry about the delay.

Merry Winter, except now we in northwest Alabama are under a wind advisory and possible tornado! How this weather changes so rapidly! I have missed you all. Thanks to Diane of: Lavender Dreamer for telling you all where I was. The posts on the 14th and 19th had been pre-scheduled. My smartphone will go online, but it is so difficult for me to do that with the RA. 'Always hit the wrong button or 2 at a time. Plus, on the smartphone the webpage is so small. Emailing and posting is not easy via a smartphone. 'So glad to be back. Prim blessings.

~Wordless Wednesday: Icy trees in our neighborhood~

Goodness it is cold!

Goodness, the temp is currently 4° here in Alabama. We are not accustomed to such low temps. Some of you are having even colder weather. Let's all stay warm and be well covered in layers of clothing when we must venture outdoors, OK? Layers of clothing are excellent insulators. A lot of body heat is actually lost via our extremities: the head and feet. Good shoes or boots with warm socks, and a hood or some other type of head covering would be great. Ear muffs or flaps would also be very wise. 'Wouldn't want anyone to get sick. If you have ice and/or snow, please be careful in that also. Prim blessings.
