~Old Pyrex bowls~

Recently, I read Christina of Pendleton Primitives' post about the old Pyrex bowls that she found. Hers are so pretty, that it reminded me of my mother having a lot of these. Mother says this is what happens when you are, "nearly a hundred years old", lol! You find that you have collected quite a few items over the years, don't you? The photo above shows seven of her old Pyrex bowls with glass lids, and two Corning bowls with glass lids. Check out the retro colors and floral designs, some with chickens and little farmers. Aren't they cute? They date from the 1950's through the 1970's. She actually has many more. Mother also has some very old cast iron skillets that she still cooks cornbread in. Thanks, Christina for the inspiration. Do you all have any old Pyrex cooking items?

Thrifty Thursday and Menu

Happy Thrifty Thursday, friends. The snowman above was found at a local store after Christmas for a mere $7.00. Although he likely has some modern synthetic fabrics, he was still a great buy and is very cute. 'Love the reindeer appliqued on his sweater.
Now for a Menu. As you all know, due to a recent health issue I have been relegated to eating very soft foods. Mother and I were talking the other day about what I want to eat once all is well again. So, here goes my planned Menu:
1. A big ole thick cheeseburger with plenty of lettuce, mustard, and ketchup. A side of French fries. Not very healthy (lol) yet very tasty!
2. A loaded deli sandwich with lettuce, black olives, tomatoes, cheese, and turkey on wheat bread.
3. Some of mother's cornbread with a fried pork chop and some cream-style corn. We do use canola oil.
4. A pepperoni pizza with extra cheese, on a thick pan crust, with some cheese sticks.
5. Some good ole deer, rabbit, or quail with homemade dumplings and gravy. Gained from legal hunting times/rules, of course.
6. Homemade meatloaf, with vegetables and a large salad. A dish that I can actually prepare, lol!
7. Broccoli casserole with vegetables and a big ole salad.
Perhaps all of the items above aren't exactly healthy foods, but they are what I do want. This gelatin, pudding, noodles and mashed potatoes diet is great but kinda limiting. Every so often, a protein shake is tasty and helps to keep protein in my body, as I have lost a few pounds. Do you all like Southern cooking?

♥ Happy Valentine's Day ♥

Happy Valentine's Day to you all. This holiday is an ancient religious one, thought to have been celebrated as long ago as the 11th century. Eventually, the occasion began to celebrate romance and love. Valentine's Day cards were sent, along with flowers and candies. This is how most of us celebrate 14th of February today in the 21st century. Symbols of hearts, doves, flowers, and Cupid are still common. The wide arrays of the colors pink and red are usually predominant. What a wonderful celebration! Even those of us who do not have a "sweetheart", we can still wish well for those of you who do. Have a wonderful Valentine's Day, dear friends.

♥ Whole Lotta Love Chain: Day #6 ♥

Books and reading have always been a huge part of my life. This love of reading and education prompted this entry in Cindi's Whole Lotta Love Chain. The above book is the oldest in my library. It is a 2nd edition of Charles Darwin's The Descent of Man, published in 1874. It was at a used book store in Tupelo, Mississippi (where I lived for 22 years). The original edition was published in 1871. Please continue reading.

♥ Whole Lotta Love Chain: Day #1 ♥

This is my entry for: Cindi's Country Corner's Whole Lotta Love Chain. My grand daughter Macey is nearly 20 months old now, and is totally adorable. I so understand all about being a doting grandma since she was born. Y'all be sure to go join Cindi's Chain for all of the fun.

On another note, beware of a person calling your home and/or cell phone asking if you are the one, "who own [sic] computer". DO NOT confirm that, give out your name, your internet service provider, or any other information. They claim that you need them to get rid of internet viruses and such that are allegedly on your specific computer. They either will not give the name of the company they work for, or they claim to be from Windows. BEWARE: IT IS A SCAM. Do not fall into their trap. Blessings to you all today on this first day of February ♥
